The tight curves in the narrow upper section require some technical paddling skill. On the lower section, the trail widens and straightens. Winds and waves are possible as you near the Gulf of Mexico.

Notes and Precautions

It is dangerous to pull off and park at Rowan Road Bridge due to heavy traffic and small pull over. The trail from Rowan Road Bridge to Francis Avenue City Park is very shallow and narrow, but can be waded through. The trip may be extended to the east by putting in at the Lion’s Club (private) on Plathe Road and to the west, by taking out at the boat ramp behind the Chamber of Commerce (across from Sim’s Park) at Main Street / River Road in New Port Richey. The trip can be extended further north to Nick’s Park at the US 19 bridge (north west of bridge).
